Survey Terms & Conditions

  1. Terms and Conditions correspond to the 26th edition Developer Nation survey, titled Developer Nation survey 26th edition (the “Survey”) (formerly known as the Developer Economics survey). 
  2. The promoter of this Survey and Prize Draw is SlashData Ltd (the “Promoter”), a company incorporated in England with number 05614666 whose registered address is at Emstrey House, Shrewsbury Business Park, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY2 6LG - United Kingdom. This Survey, its contents and questions, and the methodology are Copyright of SlashData Ltd, all rights reserved.
  3. The promoter reserves the right to amend the Terms and Conditions, pertaining to the end and close dates of each survey, as well as the number of days and weeks when the prize draws will be held for each individual survey. 
  4. To the full extent permitted by law, the Promoter will not be liable for any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or inconsequential) to persons or property as a result of any person entering into the Prize Draw or accepting or using any Prize, including without limitation non-receipt of any Prize or damage to any Prize in transit.
  5. Each entry must be entered in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. By entering the Survey, Prize Draw and/or Community and/or AR/VR Prize draw, each Entrant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. 
  6. The Promoter may at its total and absolute discretion refuse to award any prize to any Entrant who fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions. 
  7. The Promoter does not pay Entrants to participate in the Surveys.
  8. The Promoter values genuine and real responses to the Survey and as such will not accept entries that are not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. All relevant instructions on the Promoter’s survey page form part of these Terms and Conditions. Entrants agree that the Promoter may use their entry and any personal, non-identifying details provided to the Promoter for the purposes of creating research reports, website articles and other research products and that the Promoter retains the right to distribute, share and use their entry and response to this Survey in a non-identifying fashion.
  9. Any Prize Draw conducted by the Promoter under this Developer Nation Survey does not fall within the scope of Gambling Act 2005.

Developer Survey and Prize Draws

  1. The Survey opens on November 30th, 2023 and is set to close on January 28th, 2024 (“Survey Period”). Final dates are liable to change without notice.
  2. Entry for the Survey, and Prize Draws is subject to the entrant completing the core questions of the Survey, completing the questions in one or more of the 11 Areas of Interest of the Survey and providing a valid email address (the “Entrant”). In order for an entrant to be eligible for the Prize Draws, the entrant should first register to take the Survey using a valid email address. In order for the Promoter to analyse and process the results of the Survey, further details, such as the IP address of the Entrant will be collected. However, such IP address will not be used otherwise, nor will it be distributed to third parties.
  3. No entry fee or any kind of payment will be required from the Entrants to participate in the Survey or the Prize Draws.
  4. Any entry received after the closing date will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries. The Promoter reserves the right to extend or reduce the Survey Period, at any time during the survey.
  5. The Prize Draws will be held weekly throughout the Survey duration and will end approximately 4 weeks after the close of the Survey.
  6. Once the Prize Draws have taken place, the Promoter will announce the winners within 15 working days after the end of the Survey, by publicising a non-identifying portion of each Prize Draw Winner’s email address, as well as their stated country where they are based, information which will be listed on the Developer Nation website(s) and/or email communications. 
  7. Individual emails will be sent by the Promoter to winners giving them 5 working days to claim their Prize by replying to the Promoter with an email.  
  8. If a winner responds back more than 5 working days after receiving their winner’s email, they will not be able to claim their prize.
  9. If prizes are not claimed within 5 working days, runners-up will be given the opportunity to claim the prize. 
  10. At least 30 working days from the date of the acceptance of the Prize by the Entrant should be allowed for the delivery of the Prize.
  11. Entrants may enter draws multiple times depending on the number of questions answered and may claim once in the Prize Draws.
  12. Employees or family members of employees of the Promoter or any person directly or indirectly involved in the organisation are not eligible for entry into any of the Prize draws.
  13. The Survey and the Prize Draws are open only to persons involved in Web, Mobile, Desktop, Cloud, Industrial IoT, Consumer Electronics, Embedded software, AR & VR, Apps/extensions for 3rd-party ecosystems, Machine Learning-AI-Data science & Game Development. The Promoter will check and remove, at its own undisputable discretion, responses from Entrants who the Promoter believes are not involved in the above software development areas without providing notice. Only persons who are involved in the above software development areas are eligible to enter any of the Prize Draws described in the Terms and Conditions.
  14. The Survey is broken down into eleven Areas of Interest (Web, Mobile, Desktop, Cloud, Industrial IoT, Consumer Electronics, Embedded software, AR & VR, Apps/extensions for 3rd-party ecosystems, Games, Machine Learning-AI-Data science), and an Entrant can enter all Areas of Interest, subject to sufficient knowledge to be able to complete the Survey section appropriately. 
  15. Entrants are eligible to the Prize Draws if they have completed the initial set of questions addressed to all participants, regardless of their specialisation. Entrants may have more chances to win prizes depending on how many questions they have answered.
  16. While Developer Nation Members are entered into all Draws, they can only win one Prize from the Weekly Prize Draw or Community Prize Draw. 
  17. The Developer Survey Prize Draws are not related to the Referral Program Prizes or the Community Prize Draws. 
  18. If the Prize (or an element of the Prize) is unavailable, for whatever reason, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute the Prize (or an element of the Prize) for a Prize of equal value. It is a condition of accepting the Prize that the winner must comply with all the conditions of use of the Prize and Prize supplier’s requirements.
  19. Please note that it is not always possible for the Promoter to provide Prizes to individuals who are located outside of the European Union or the UK. In these instances, the Promoter will provide a substitute to the Prize (or an element of the Prize) for a Prize of equal value. The Promoter is not responsible for Customs, Tax charges or any other costs that may arise in order for the individual to take receipt of the Prize. 
  20. The Promoter will never charge an Entrant or a Winner any fee for the value of the Prize, nor will it demand from the Winner any payment against the value of such Prize.
  21. Although the Promoter will normally cover the Prize delivery expenses at the Winner’s address, there might be rare occasions where the Winner may be requested by local authorities to pay local delivery costs. Such costs are not related with the Prize Draw nor do constitute a fee or income for the Promoter in any way whatsoever. The Promoter is not responsible for those fees or costs.
  22. If there is any event that prevents or hinders the Promoter’s conduct of the Survey Prize Draw or the Promoter’s ability to deliver the Prize/s to the prize winner/s of the Survey, the Promoter may, in its discretion, cancel the Survey Prize Draw and recommence it at another time under the same conditions or select another winner. 
  23. Each Prize must be taken as stated and no compensation will be payable if a winner is unable to use the Prize as stated. 
  24. The Promoter is not responsible for the failure to deliver a gift card due to any circumstances outside of our control (for example, if someone other than the Entrant  accesses the email account of that individual).
  25. In no event shall Promoter be liable to any Entrant in connection with this Survey and/or any Prize Draw related to it for any special, consequential, incidental, punitive or special damages, reliance, or other indirect damages, including any loss of revenue, profits, or information provided by the Entrant by entering the Survey and/or any Prize Draw related to it.
  26. The Promoter shall act in compliance with legislation pertaining to personal data protection, particularly with the Data Protection Act 2018. By entering this Survey, Entrant agrees and acknowledges that if any personal data is provided to the Promoter of the Survey by the Entrant personally, such entrance enables the Promoter to process it for the purposes and in connection to the Entrant’s participation in the Survey as well as with the research and results of it. Security measures are in place to ensure that Entrants’ details are not accessible to any unauthorised company or individual.

The Promoter may need to disclose some personal data such as the Entrant’s email address to its Prize providers for the purpose of delivering the Prize. 

By entering the Survey, Entrants verify that:

  1. They agree to be contacted by the Promoter in the future by email about current Surveys, Prize Draws and Prizes related to them.
  2. Entrants’s IP address will be used for the analysis of the results of the Survey and the research based on such results. 
  3. They agree to their contact information being stored in the Promoter’s database after the end of the Survey, in order to be used for future Surveys.  

All disputes arising between Entrants on the one hand and the Promoter and/or any of its directors, officers, or employees on the other from or in connection with this Terms and Conditions, the Survey that they are related to, the Prize Draws and the delivery of Prizes, shall be settled by the Courts of London UK, by application of the English laws. AR/VR Survey Terms & Conditions

  1. Terms and Conditions correspond to the State of the Augmented and Virtual Reality survey, titled ARVR Survey 9th edition (the “ ARVR Survey”). 
  2. The promoter of this ARVR Survey and Prize Draw is SlashData Ltd (the “Promoter”), a company incorporated in England with number 05614666 whose registered address is at Emstrey House, Shrewsbury Business Park, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY2 6LG - United Kingdom. The State of AR/VR Survey, Prize Draws

  2. Entry for the ARVR Survey, and AR/VR Prize Draws are subject to the entrant completing the questions of the ARVR Survey and providing a valid email address (the “Entrant”). In order for the Promoter to analyse and process the results of the Survey, further details, such as the IP address of the Entrant will be collected. However, such IP address will not be used otherwise, nor will it be distributed to third parties.
  3. No entry fee or any kind of payment will be required from the Entrants to participate in the Survey or the Prize Draws.
  4. In order for an entrant to be eligible for the ARVR Prize Draw the entrant should first register to take the ARVR survey using a valid email address.
  5. Any entry received after the closing date will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries. The Promoter reserves the right to extend or reduce the ARVR Survey Period, at any time during the ARVR survey.

Developer Nation Community 

  1. Entrants to our Surveys may agree to become a member of the Developer Nation Community by checking the relevant option in the Sign-up registration pop up, as well as by visiting the Developer Nation Community website https://www.developernation.net/signup
  2. Members of the Developer Nation Community (“Members”) may choose to unsubscribe from the Developer Nation Community by contacting SlashData LTD through the email: community@developernation.net
  3. If subscribers of the Developer Nation Newsletter choose to unsubscribe from the Newsletter at any point, they have the option to do so within the email campaigns they may receive or through their notification settings on the profile here.
  4. Members are identified by the email address they provided during the first time they registered to the Developer Nation Community . Members should sign-up to any survey using the same email address. The Promoter is not responsible for Members who have taken multiple surveys using different email addresses. If members choose to change their email subscription they have the option to do so within the email campaigns they may receive or through the “Communication Preferences” settings on their profile here.
  5. Developer Nation Community Members are eligible to win Prizes related to our Surveys, but also have additional benefits, namely prizes available only to Members, given out in a separate prize draw (“Community Prize Draw”), increased chances of winning a Prize (please refer to the ‘Community Prize Draw’ section found below), as well as the ability to earn points by taking Developer Nation surveys (“Point System”).

Community Point System Rewards and Guaranteed Prizes

  1. Every Member will earn 100 Points for a genuine completion of our Developer Nation or State of the AR/VR Survey. This number of Points earned may change for future surveys. 
  2. Each member can earn an additional 10 Points for leaving feedback about the survey, and a further 50 Points for completing our UX/UI Survey. We reserve the right to not allocate points to nonsensical/irrelevant feedback which is not directly related to the survey. Points will be added within 30 days upon close of the survey.
  3. The total number of Points that an existing Member can be checked via their profile page (https://www.developernation.net/admin/settings)
  4. Members with a certain amount of Points may be eligible to earn a guaranteed prize by taking the current Survey (“Guaranteed Prize”). The list of Guaranteed Prize(s) will be communicated to Members after the survey close date.
  5. A Member may choose to cash in a fixed number of points in order to receive one, and only one, Guaranteed Prize. 
  6. Cashing out a Guaranteed Prize is only possible after the Survey is completed.
  7. Alternatively, Members may choose to retain their Points and transfer them to future surveys. 
  8. Points can not be transferred or combined with another’s member points.
  9. Eligible Members will not be able to cash out more than one Guaranteed Prize at each survey.

Handling Developer Nation Community Members personal data 

  1. By registering their email address, Members agree to occasionally being contacted by SlashData & the Developer Nation Community for updates regarding prizes, key survey-related information, the announcements of prize winners, the survey findings (such as the provisionally titled report: “State of the Developer Nation Report”, due to be published in Q2 2024) and questions. 
  2. By joining the Developer Nation Community, Members agree that the Promoter may contact them again regarding this Survey and future potential surveys on topics related to software development, including, but not limited to: Web, Mobile, Desktop, Cloud,  Industrial IoT, Consumer Electronics, Embedded software, AR & VR, Apps/extensions for 3rd-party ecosystems, Games, Machine Learning, AI & Data science. Under no circumstances will SlashData contact the Members requiring them to pay any amount, fee or other cost in relation to any Survey or Prize Draw. 
  3. All Members participating in the Surveys, who have provided a valid email address will receive an email to notify them of the Prize Draw results and the publication of the free report with the key insights from the Survey (provisionally titled “State of the Developer Nation 24th Edition”).
  4. It is acknowledged that the Promoter will process Members’ personal data for the purposes and in connection to the Member’s participation in the Survey, the research and results of it as well as the points earned by the Members for the Surveys they participate in, regardless of the Member’s choice to receive marketing emails.
  5. Members agree that the Promoter may use their entry and any personal, non-identifying details provided to the Promoter for the purposes of creating research reports, website articles and other research products and that the Promoter retains the right to distribute, share and use their entry and response to this Survey in a non-identifying fashion. 
  6. All data provided by the Members to the Promoter will be anonymised (removing any identifying information) before distribution to any other third party, except for the purposes of providing Prizes through third-party sponsors. 
  7. Members may save their Survey participation at any point in the Survey and may return to complete the Survey at any time whilst the survey is live, given that they’ve provided a valid email address. 
  8. In addition to the above, for Prize Draws exclusively offered to participants from specific 3rd party Developer Communities, the Promoter has the right to share the winners’ email with the 3rd party Community’s managers. 
  • It is the 3rd party Community manager’s responsibility to contact the winner for any permission needed in additional communications related to the Survey and the specific Partner/Community Prize Draw. 
  • No communication entailing all or part of Winner’s details is allowed without his/her prior consent.
